This way when you are out walking the great outdoors you monitor the necessary things like weather conditions, and also keep track of which direction you are going.

After all consideration if you still don't want to spend that much money on a GPS handheld then there are other GPS handhelds out there with just your basics that cost less. Like the Garmin eTrex series that has the electric compass, is waterproof up to 1 meter, and has reverse track log to point your way home.
