Planning your next vacation is a stressful, yet rewarding job.  The reward is obviously spending your days around beautiful surroundings, relaxing with your family and loved ones, experiencing exciting activities that you could do at home, and of course, not having to work!  However, the work leading up to that much deserved vacation, is the worst part of any vacation.  Where shall we go?  In the states, or out?  Which hotel should we stay at?  What should we do?  Where are we going again?  When you finally decide on going to sunny Florida, you still find yourself faced with the same questions?  Where on earth in Florida should we stay?  Florida is a hot vacation spot with vacation spots located all around the entire state.  So picking an exact city to stay in can be a tough decision.  As you ponder this very important decision, take into consideration Ft. Lauderdale.

The first thing anyone thinks of when they think “Florida” is obviously the beach.  And rest assured, Ft. Lauderdale has its fill of beautiful long stretching beaches, 7 miles to be exact.  There’s no better way to relax, and no better place to relax than a gorgeous, sunny beach; and Ft. Lauderdale is no stranger to that.  Ft. Lauderdale has recently gone through many renovations to make your experience that much more amazing and relaxing.  With new walkways, perfect for taking that long stroll on the beach, beautiful new landscaping, and new “wave wall,” the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale are exciting places to experience.  The beaches also offer several activities to indulge in other than lying out.  Various spots on the beach offer snorkeling and diving lessons to check out the sea life, and also boat tours to see all that the beach and the Atlantic has to offer.

Of course, one thing you'll need to be willing to tolerate any time of year is the sight of many skimpily clad men--and not just on the beach.  Poolside bars in the many hotels allow you to sip colorful drinks as you consume the beauty that abounds.  Yes, Fort Lauderdale is a great place for a gay man to do a little "window shopping," or more.

Fort Lauderdale also offers plenty of cultural attractions as well including their museums, theatre, and sports.  There are several museums that the city has, including a historical museum, art museum, and the famous Bonnet House.  The Bonnet House is a unique attraction for anyone visiting Ft. Lauderdale.  A 35-acre beach front estate, the Bonnet House gives a wonderful look into the history of South Florida with its artwork, architecture, and luscious gardens.  The city also has a wonderful performing arts scene with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Grand Opera, as well as a childrens theatre and annual film festival.  And of course, if your into sports and come at the right time of year, you can catch your favorite baseball, football, basketball, or hockey teams play just a few miles outside of the city.  But, of course, the best way to fill up with the cultural excitement of Fort Lauderdale is to experience it the way everyone else does, walking around.

There’s no wonder why Ft. Lauderdale is nicknamed the “Venice of America” after you experience the gorgeous canal system and riverwalk of the city.  These features are probably the most unique and makes the city stand out from all the others in Florida, or America for that matter.  The Ft. Lauderdale Riverwalk is also known as “Florida’s Most Beautiful Mile,” and there’s no doubt that it is.  The Riverwalk stretches along the New River downtown connecting boutiques, shops, restaurants, museums, among other attractions, including their Florida’s standard gorgeous tropical scenery.  Here, you’ll also find romantic gazebos, picnic areas, native plant life and a wonderful butterfly garden.  And, if you happen to be in town on the first Sunday of the month, you can experience the Sunday Jazz Brunch at the Riverwalk where you eat with the locals and listen to live jazz performances by some great artists.  And what’s even better, the entertainment is free!  The Riverwalk and experience of downtown is one of the greatest ways to experience all that Fort Lauderdale has to offer.

After a busy day of seeing all there is to see in this sunny city, its time to treat yourself to some nightlife.  The nightlife of Ft. Lauderdale is one of the greatest in America.  There are always things to do, and places to go throughout the city and throughout the hours of the night.  Here, the weather always stays beautiful, even at night, so walking around is a great way to travel from here to there.  Bars are always booming with excitement and fun, as well as the many clubs.  Many of the bars are right along to the beach, so you can still enjoy the beauties of the Atlantic at night.  Ft. Lauderdale nightlife is always pumping with excitement, and while your vacation will be very busy, be sure to set aside one day to sleep in so you can go out and experience Ft. Lauderdale the night before.

We can all face it that planning the perfect vacation is a very stressful task, but as with any vacation the outcome is always a great reward for your efforts.  Once you’ve decided on a place to go, the planning becomes that much easier and the excitement becomes that much greater.  And, as you plan that relaxing and exciting vacation, remember, there’s no place more relaxing and exciting than Ft. Lauderdale.
