Setting Sail? : A Helpful Guide to Food Options on Your Cruise

For the widest selection of cruises, no matter your price range, click here!  We strongly recommend this partnership between Hotels.com and Expedia for up to date information and flawless bookings.

You’re in the middle of the ocean; no land can be seen as far as they eye can see; and you’re starving.  Well don’t cast your fishing line just yet, because your cruise ship has plenty of food options to please your stomach to capacity.  Whatever you’re in the mood for, chances are the ship has it on board from breakfast to dinner and even your midnight snack.  And it’s all free!

One of the easiest options for you dining pleasure is the buffet dining room.  Whichever meal you’re looking for, the buffet will have it.  Just woke up and looking for some breakfast?  The dining room has almost any breakfast item you can think of including cereals, eggs (cooked any way), pancakes, and fruit.  Or perhaps it’s breakfast, but you’re looking for pizza.  Well they have that too!

It’s lunch time and your stomach is growling again.  The buffet has a huge selection of meals for you to feast upon.  In the mood for some Chinese food?  Head over to the Chinese section.  They have sections for just about every food imaginable, such as burgers and fries, New York Deli, Italian, and Mexican.  You name it, they can whip it up.  Watching your figure, so you look good in your bathing suit?  They have a salad and fruit bar.  Woke up a little late because a late night dancing in the club?  Breakfast is served well into the afternoon hours.  And don’t worry, if you get full, the food will be made around the clock, so you can always come back for what you didn’t get to try at dinner.  Feel free to come back as often as you like.  The buffet will close late, but if you’re looking for a late night snack, grab a slice of pizza from the 24-hour pizza bar.

When dinnertime rolls around, you have a few options.  You could go back up to the buffet, or you can head over to the restaurant-style dining room.  The dining room has all finest and fanciest foods that will make you feel like you can afford it.  (Remember, it’s all free).  The dining room offers a three course meal with full service from the wait staff.  Choose from the all the starters that you can’t pronounce, the main entrées and gourmet desserts.  And if you see more than one thing you like, order it all.  Want to order the steak AND lobster?  Do it!  Like the sound of a few of their desserts?  Order them all!  The menu changes every night, so you’ll always have something new to try.  But they still have their choices from last night too, so if there’s something that you wish you had gotten, you still can.

Another easy way to grab a bite to eat is making use of the 24-hour room service.  Each room is equipped with a room service menu that has all the items you can order.  Food is delivered in a quick and timely manner, so no need to worry about going hungry while you wait.  Most items are different kinds of sandwiches and simpler meals.  If you want breakfast to be delivered to your room the next morning, just fill out one of their continental breakfast cards and hang it outside your door.  Breakfast includes cereals, fruits, toast, and juices among other things.  Be sure to specify how many of each item you want and what time the meal should be delivered.  But remember to tip your porter.

No matter how hungry you are, there will be plenty of food on the cruise ship for you to try.  The ship provides a fun experience to try new and different foods that you may not get to try at home.  So, no matter if you’re looking for a new dining experience or just to have a good meal, you’ll never go hungry on your cruise.
