If you’re looking forward to your upcoming cruise, but are weary about the amount of space you’ll have to yourself, there are a few things you should know about the typical cruise ship cabin.

I recently went on a cruise with three of my friends this past winter, and I should probably start off by telling you not to worry about the amount of space the rooms provide.  If you’re like me, all the information you have on the size of a ships cabin comes from movies such as Titanic; silly me for not thinking that they would step up the luxury.

Upon entry to our cabin, I was immediately delighted to notice how much room we actually had.  The room supplied us with a full bathroom, three armoire closets, a desk, a coffee table, two twin size beds, and a couch, which would turn into a bed as well.  Hidden from view was another bed stored in the ceiling.  I was surprised to see how much space the cabin supplied for four adult people.

The cabin was fully equipped with everything you could think of that would make your stay comfortable.  The bathroom supplied plenty of towels and space for all of the residents’ toiletries.  The ship also provides a sampler basket of various toiletries such as razors, lotions, and hair gels.  The shower stall was set up very nicely with soap dispensers and shower head that you could adjust according to your height; also, you could choose you desired water temperature ranging from 30 degrees and higher.  In the armoires you could find plenty of comfy fluffy robes.

The ship’s porters do their job and then some visiting the room a few times a day.  Every day they’d come in and clean the cabin spotless and make sure everything was top notch for their guests.  At evening’s fall, the porter would come in and pull back our sheets for an easy way into their warm beds as you lay your head down on their down-pillows.  The porters also left a small companion in the room, in the form of cute looking towel animals.  All the porters specialize in the art of towel animal making; ours gave us a towel dolphin, and a towel monkey that hung from the curtain!

And in the morning, if you don’t feel like leaving your cabin just yet, just place the “privacy please” sign on the door and feel free to lie in bed as long as you want.  If you’re still having trouble getting out of bed, go ahead and flip on the TV and watch from their assortment of network TV, Cruise Ship TV, or choose a film from one of their free movie channels.  Pick up the phone and order some and sandwiches and drinks from room service; the room service came to the door in a surprisingly short wait.  And don’t worry about room service; all the costs are included in your boarding pass, so room service is free!

So if you’re headed on a cruise ship soon, don’t worry about the room in your cabin.  With what little time you’ll probably spend in there, the amenities and space that the ship provides will make you feel like a king!
