Gay Chicago: Vacation Hot Spots
Vacationing anywhere is always an exciting time, but can also be intimidating when you’re entering a new place that you know nothing about. What can be more intimidating is when that place happens to be one of the biggest and busiest cities in the U.S. Chicago is a wonderful city, alive with a great culture, and unique tourist spots. The city is always busy giving it an always eventful atmosphere, but that atmosphere can sometimes be daunting. Luckily for you, you’re reading this. Here are five of the hottest locations in Chicago that you should be sure to check out.
1. You can’t visit Chicago without first thinking about two of the most famous spots in the world. Chicago is, of course, the home to the Sears Tower, a must see for anyone in Chicago. The Sears Tower is, of course, the tallest skyscraper in America, and for most Chicagoans, still the tallest in the world. For anyone visiting Chicago, a ride to the top of this building should be done. The top floor provides and astounding 360 degree view of the entire city; you can even see Indiana Michigan, and Wisconsin! On that top floor, you’ll also find a Sears Tower historical “museum.”
2. If you’re a theatre fan, then you should make a visit the many theatres of Chicago. Chicago is home to some of the most famous theatres in the world, including the Goodman Theatre and Steppenwolf Theatre. This city is also where some of the great comedians of our time were discovered including Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Steve Carell, and Stephen Colbert, all coming from Chicago’s Second City comedy troupe. Second City performs every night with their hilarious improv comedy shows. And, don’t forget about Broadway in Chicago. Chicago is also home to great musical performances such as their long running Wicked. Chicago is a great place to check out that show you’ve wanted to see, or, since most shows open in Chicago first, you can see a show before it opens in New York.
3. If shopping is more your thing, be sure to visit the Magnificent Mile, located on Michigan Ave. Here you’ll be able to find a great mixture of upscale department stores, restaurants, and designer stores. It’s also home to some of Chicago’s most famous media including the Chicago Tribune. The Mag Mile is also located in the heart of Chicago, so is a great place to walk around and take in all that Chicago has to offer.
4. Only three years old now, another must see for anyone in Chicago is the new Millennium Park, located along the city’s lakefront. Millennium Park is home to some of the most popular post-modern art pieces in Chicago. The most famous is probably the Cloud Gate, known by most as “the bean.” The Cloud Gate is a large steel sculpture that acts as a mirror, reflecting stunning views of visitors, the city and the sky. It has become one of the most popular structures in the city. The park also contains other large art pieces, a music pavilion, and the beautiful Lurie Garden. Millennium Park has become one of the most popular destinations in Chicago and is a must for any traveler.
5. Lastly, what would any trip to Chicago be without visiting the northside, most commonly known as Wrigleyville? Wrigleyville is a beautiful town in Chicago filled with some of the hottest spots for the nightlife. It has some of the best bars in the city and some great restaurants as well.
