Jaipur, India - The Pink City
One of the major tourist destinations of
India, Jaipur is given a world wild title, as the ‘Pink City’ due to the pink wash applied to its buildings.
Jaipur provides a glimpse of the entire Rajasthan experience: - forts, palaces, pink sandstone monuments,
museums and colourful shopping. Built in 1727, Jaipur is a blend of princely heritage, feudal traditions and
genuine Rajasthani hospitality. The city is surrounded by a crenellated wall with seven gates meant for
protection against the invading enemies. At the beginning of the city stands the imposing Amer Fort, as if
guarding.
The tourists love the Rajasthani jewelry,
art and fabrics. They maintain an ageless feature and are surely a treasure-trove for the shoppers. These
exquisite items are of great demand in the international market as well. Jaipur with its romantic grace takes
one to an era of kingship and heritage. The views of palaces and ornamented camels are the ones you should keep
a look out for while you are there.
The city is a delight for those who love to go back in time. Your Jaipur travel will enable you
to explore the forts and palaces of the city. The city tour will involve City Palace, Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal
among others. The city is multifaceted and offers innumerable attractions to people coming from across the
world.
The Hawa Mahal, or the 'Palace of Winds' is
unarguably Jaipur's best-known monument. The magical structure seems straight out of the Arabian Nights - an
oriental fantasy in red stone. It is a five storey high structure complete with over 950
windows.
The City Palace, situated in the heart of Jaipur, covers
one-seventh of the town, and the plan of the palace is similar to that of the city. The palace has a high wall
that surrounds it on all sides.
Jaigarh or the 'Fort of Victory' is perched atop Chilh ka Tola (Hill of Eagles). The walls of the fort spread
across three kilometres. Amber Fort, located on a hillock
can be best experienced in its full royal grandeur with an elephant ride around the fort. The main sights
within the fort include the Sheesh Mahal, adorned with thousands of mirror tiles on the walls and ceiling. One
should go for the evening light and sound show in Amber fort, which provides a glimpse into the glorious past of
the city. If you enjoy hot balloon ride, then try it in Amber fort.
Nahargarh Fort stands tall on a
steep rocky face with massive walls and bastions. The fort provides a bird's-eye view of the Pink City, sprawled
all around it.
Your Jaipur travel is incomplete if you
don't enroll yourself in shopping expedition. There are number of local shopping bazaars from where you can shop
the best of products. Nehru Bazaar is quite famous for Mojri footwear.
Jal Mahal (or the Water Palace) is on the
way to Sisodia Rani Garden. This Rajput style palace sits in the center of the Maan-sarovar Lake with the
miraculous sight especially in the night.
The Jantar Mantar, built in
18th century, is an observatory that consists of fourteen
major geometric devices for measuring time, predicting eclipses, tracking stars in their orbits, ascertaining
the declinations of planets, and determining the celestial altitudes etc. Inquisitive kids and grown-ups love to
spend their time here making small talk with their favorite stars and planets in the sky.
The perfect time to visit Jaipur would be
during the months of October-March.
Jaipur is
well connected with Delhi by air and rail. There are number of hotels in Jaipur which provide comfortable stay to
its visitors. It is very tricky to pick one spot or destination in Jaipur which would be the most priceless and
memorable. Whole of Jaipur is a welcoming city offering only the best to its dear visitors.
